Vicks

Vicks is a unique product which has a legacy of its own. It was originally manufactured by Richardson-Vicks, Inc., based in Greensborro, North Carolina. In 1985, it was acquired by the American company Procter & Gamble. Available in 71 countries, it is world #1 cough and cold brand. Vicks has been available since 1894. It has helped billions to tackle mild sickness and regain their health. It is not just an ordinary cough and flu medicine. It has found a small silent place in the heart of people.

Its influential heart touching campaigns has has won the confidence of women, mostly mothers. With a theme that a loving touch can strengthen family bonds it has come even closer to the families. Vicks has many products in India - Vicks Vaporub, Vicks Inhaler, Vicks Cough Drops, Vicks Candys, Vicks Action 500, Vicks Multipain Relief Gel.

Vicks Vaporub, which is the most common of all the products is mostly composed of Menthol (Pudinah ke phool), Camphor (Karpoor), Thymol (Ajowan ke phool), Turpentine Oil (Tarpin ka tel), Equalyptol (Nilgiri tel), Nutmeg oil (Jaiphal tel) and Ointment base q.s. Vicks Inhaler delivers Levomethamphetamine which acts as a decongestant.

Pears Transparent Soap

Pears Soap was a cosmetic product of Andrew Pears, who was experimenting with soap purification. Pears manufactured the soap in a factory near Oxford Street, London, England. It was first sold in 1807 and is one of the oldest soap brand in the world. The company spread it roots to other countries including United States during the nineteenth century. In 1851, A. & F. Pears Ltd. was awarded a medal for its unique and gentle soap. It is a world famous brand but is most famous in India. It is now manufactured in India by Hindustan Unilever (HUL).

Pears is a transparent soap which originally had a mild fragrance of an English garden. The soap used to come in two sizes: 75g and 125g. However, nowadays, Pears transparent soap comes in three flavors: amber (the classic Pears as we all know), oil clear green, and mint (blue color). It now comes in 69g and 119g. However, the transparent formula of Pears has been kept intact. The brand has now expanded to produce face wash, shower gel and even hand wash and is a natural way to attain healthy looking skin.

Pears transparent soap contains hypoallergenic ingredients which cleanses and hydrates the skin. It also contains glycerin and sorbitol as well as natural oils and is specially made to take care of even sensitive and delicate skin. It contains water which helps the humectants (glycerin, sorbitol, etc) seal moisture into the skin.

 

 

Garnier White Complete Multi Action Fairness Cream

Garnier is well known brand which is famous for its hair and skin care products world-wide. It is used as a luxury brand in Asia-Pacific. It was established in 1904. In 1970's L'Oreal took over Garnier Laboratories.

There are multiple face care products of Garnier, one of which is White Complete Multi Action Fairness Cream. It is composed of Pure Lemon Extracts and Active White Molecule - an ingredient which it claims to contains ten times the power of Vitamin C#. It is also composed of SPF17 and PA++ which protects skin damage and tanning.

Hamam

Established in 1931, Hamam is one of the oldest soaps in India which still maintains its reputation and has a special place in the hearts of Indians. To survive in such a competitive market for more than 80 years is a great achievment in itself. It faced stiff competition from soaps like Cinthol, Rexona but it still managed to create a space and environment for itself. Hamam was first manufactured by TOMCO (Tata Oil Mills Company) but later when Hindustan Lever Limited acquired TOMCO, Hamam became a brand of HLL. In February 2007, HLL was renamed to Hindustan Unilevel Limited (HUL).

Hamam is a natural soap and contains the goodness of neem, tulsi and aloevera with a characteristic mild fragrance. It is suitable for all age groups and protects us from many skin problems such as pimples, prickly heat, rashes, body odour, etc. In Tamil Nadu, Hamam is recomended by most of the doctors. Hamam was percieved as a complete family soap and with a strong marketing strategy, it was able to build an image of trust for itself.

When I was a child, I enjoyed bathing with Hamam and have an emotional connection with this brand.

Fair & Lovely

Fair & Lovely was launched in 1975 by Unilever with the basic concept that Vitamin B3 can lighten the skin. Fair & Lovely is a cream with an active mix of Niacinamide (Vitamin B3), Vitamin C, Vitamin E and Vitamin B6 and triple UVA+UVB (including UVAI and UVAII) sunscreens (Parsol MCX, Parsol 1789 & TiO2). It also contains glycerin (best known moisturizer in the world), allantoin, and skin identical fatty acids (e.g. stearic acid).

Himani Boroplus is manufactured by Emami which was started as ‘Kemco Chemicals’ by two entrepreneurs- R.S. Agarwal and R.S. Goenka. It is based in Kolkata. Boroplus antiseptic cream was launched in 1984 which played a significant role in establishing the brand Emami.

Boroplus consists of extracts of lots of ayurvedic substances including kapoor Kachari, Chandan Ghritkumari 1.5 % each, nimbi 1.0 %, Tulsi 0.4 %, Haridra 0.3%, Hriber 0.5%, Khadir, Kumud 0.15% each, bhavprakash, Jasad Bhasma (Zinc Oxide) 2.5 %, Tankan Amla (Boric Acid) 0.8%, Dughda Pashana (Talc) 7%, Rastarangini, Methylparaben, Propyl paraben, Ointment Vehicle q.s.

It is used for treatment of dry skin, cuts, scratches, minor burns and wounds, chapped skin, etc.

Boroplus claims to be India's No 1. Antiseptic Cream. It has a mild unique scent which is a characteristics of Boroplus.

Boroline

Boroline is manufactured by G. D. Pharmaceuticals Private Limited (founded by Gourmohon Dutta) in 1929 at Calcutta (now Kolkata). It is still one of the most popular brands in India. One lakh tubes of Boroline was distributed free of cost on the occasion of  India's Independence in exchange of coupons which came with the congratulatory advertisements in print media.

Boroline consists of Boric Acid (which is antiseptic having mild anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties), Zinc Oxide (which is mild astringent and acts as sunscreen), Anhydrous Lanolin (which is an excellent emollient). It is used for cracked lips, nipples and heals, cuts, skin infections, and rough skin.
